Article 6 - Rights of citizenship of certain persons who have migrated to India from Pakistan

 

Article 6 provides for the citizenship rights of certain individuals who have migrated to India from Pakistan.

 

These individuals will be considered citizens of India at the start of the Constitution if they meet certain criteria such as:

 

1. Being born in India or having Indian ancestry (as defined by the Government of India Act, 1935)

 

2. Having lived in India since migrating, or being registered as a citizen by an appointed government officer before the start of the Constitution.

 

3. Requirement of being resident in India for at least six months immediately preceding the date of application.
